A studio apartment in Berlin — known locally as a 1-Zimmer-Wohnung or Apartment — is the most affordable long-term option in the city. Expect 25–40m² of space, a small kitchen (sometimes a Pantryküche), and a single combined living and sleeping area. Cold rent for a studio currently runs €600–€950 in central districts, but supply is tight and applications close in hours.

A studio (1-Zimmer) is one room plus bathroom. A 1.5-Zimmer flat adds a small alcove or half-room. A true bedroom-with-door starts at 2-Zimmer.
For solo renters who want to keep rent under €900 cold, a 1-Zimmer is usually the realistic target.
Where to look
Wedding, Moabit, Neukölln and Schöneberg still have studios under €800 cold. Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain push closer to €900–€1,100. Charlottenburg has older, larger studios in beautiful Altbau buildings.
Furnished vs. unfurnished
Furnished studios on platforms like Wunderflats or Mr. Lodge cost 40–80% more per month than unfurnished ones. They're convenient short-term but rarely allow proper Anmeldung. For a long-term Berlin life — bank accounts, contracts, residence — you want an unfurnished long-term lease as Hauptmieter.
